Anyone with a working laptop and an internet connection making less than $10,000 a month is doing so by choice.
I'll say it again so we're all on the same page.
If you have a computer... and you have internet... and you're not making $10,000 a month... that is a choice you are making.
Not your circumstances. Not the economy. Not your boss. Not your degree. Not your background.
A choice.
Think Big Minute #49
And before anyone gets mad, let me explain why $10,000 is the number.
$10,000 a month is $120,000 a year.
That's not get-rich money. That's not Lambo money. That's not "post a picture in front of a private jet you don't own" money.
It's a real, livable, halfway successful income.
In the traditional economy that puts you near the top.
In the internet economy it's the floor for anyone actually trying.
So why aren't most people there?
Let's go through what you have access to right now. Today. Sitting in whatever chair you're sitting in.
YouTube. Free. Every skill that anyone is willing to pay for is taught on YouTube for free. Sales. Copywriting. SEO. Paid ads. Video editing. Web design. Software development. Coaching. Consulting. All of it. Free.
AI. Free or nearly free. You have access to tools today that the smartest people on the planet didn't have 4 years ago. You can write, research, code, design, edit, and outsource entire workflows for the cost of a Netflix subscription.
Social media. Free distribution. LinkedIn. X. Facebook. Instagram. TikTok. YouTube. Every one of them will hand you an audience for free if you put in the reps.
Freelance marketplaces. You can list a service on Legiit and start taking orders this week.
Payment processors. Stripe and PayPal will let you collect money from anyone on earth in 10 minutes.
Books. The greatest business minds in history wrote down everything they know and you can buy it for $15 or borrow it from the library for free.
Email and outbound. Still the highest ROI activity in business and it costs almost nothing to do.
So you have:
- Free education
- Free distribution
- Free intelligence on tap
- Free or cheap tools
- A global customer base
- A global talent pool
- More information than any generation in human history
Now let's talk about what you can actually do with all of that.
5 clients paying $2,000 a month is $10,000 a month.
10 clients paying $1,000 a month is $10,000 a month.
1 remote sales job with decent commissions is $10,000 a month.
A small SaaS with 100 customers paying $100 a month is $10,000 a month.
A productized service doing 2 to 3 sales a week is $10,000 a month.
A handful of recurring agency retainers is $10,000 a month.
A small local service business in almost any niche is $10,000 a month.
A specialized consultant with one good offer is $10,000 a month.
None of these are rare. None of them require luck. None of them require you to be famous. None of them require you to raise money or go viral.
Real people, with no special advantages, do this every single day.
So why aren't you?
This is where people get uncomfortable.
Because the honest answer isn't "I don't have the opportunity."
The honest answer is "I don't want to do the things that lead to it."
You don't want to spend 6 months getting good at a valuable skill.
You don't want to work nights and weekends while you build it.
You don't want to make 100 sales calls and hear "no" 95 times.
You don't want to create content for a year before it pays off.
You don't want to look stupid online while you learn.
You don't want to send the email that might get ignored.
You don't want to charge real money and risk someone saying you're too expensive.
You don't want to admit you're going to have to sell something to make this work.
So you watch Netflix instead.
You scroll TikTok.
You play video games.
You tell yourself "I'll start Monday."
You read another business book instead of writing the email that would get you a client.
You spend three hours a day on YouTube watching other people make money.
You collect courses instead of completing them.
You learn just enough to feel like you're making progress without ever actually putting anything out into the world.
That's not a circumstance.
That's a choice.
And it's a choice you're making over and over again, every single day.
The internet didn't get harder. The internet got easier.
Every single barrier that used to exist has been knocked down.
You don't need a degree.
You don't need a license.
You don't need an office.
You don't need to ask permission.
You don't need to raise money.
You don't need to live anywhere in particular.
You don't need to know anyone.
You don't need a credit score.
You don't need to look a certain way.
You don't need to be a certain age.
You don't need to be from a certain place.
You need a laptop. An internet connection. And the willingness to do uncomfortable work for long enough to get good at something.
That is the entire list.
And if you're reading this, you have all of it.
So if you've been stuck below $10,000 a month for years, I'm not going to be the guy who tells you it isn't your fault.
It's not the economy.
It's not your boss.
It's not your zip code.
It's not bad luck.
It's not the algorithm.
It's not because everyone else got there first.
It's the choices you keep making to pick comfort over discomfort, entertainment over output, certainty over risk, and consumption over creation.
People are way too conservative on effort.
They give up on a channel because they think it's tapped. They walk away from a skill because they didn't make money in the first 3 months. They quit creating content because nobody watched the first 20 videos.
They never actually got to enough reps to know.
Enough reps is when more reps stop producing more results.
Almost nobody ever gets there.
The good news is the same thing that makes this true is what makes it fixable.
If you're below $10,000 a month by choice... you can choose differently starting today.
Pick the skill.
Do the reps.
Send the message.
Make the offer.
Take the no.
Send another one.
Keep going.
For long enough that it stops being a question of if and starts being a question of when.
The internet rewards effort over almost everything else.
Almost nobody puts in real effort.
That is the entire opportunity.
Think Big.
